Striped Piano, Sensors, Elektromagnets

Hagenbucher Kunstraum, Heilbronn / Germany

For an exhibition in a former industrial building, 88 small electromagnetic hammers were attached to walls, windows and pipes in a large factory floor. These hammers were connected via thin copper wires to a piano from which everything but the keyboard had been removed. Visitors could play on the keyboard and experiment with the sounds inherent to the space, which sounded sometimes nearby, sometimes became a distant whisper.
